STATEMENT

ALXSw is my tradename for decades. It allows for the initial de-gendering of my work by the viewer. I create art between Expressionism and Minimalism  (AbEx) often relying on the use of negative space and strong color.

My favorite mediums vary: traditional oil paints, sumi ink (ultra-black), gouache, shodo-salting techniques, happenstance. In painting and photography, my focus is energy and mood through color and composition, rather than realist depiction.

In photography, I seek to capture the usualserendipity or whim, often situated in the West (northwest or southwest). My favorite photography is black and white.

Ongoing series include: "The Canoe Series" and "Solastalgia". I believe art does not have to be "happy and pretty", but that it's primary goal is truth and authenticity in any expression.

Art is my home at so many levels.
